So I’ve done my best to find works that are light on the deathiness. Still, even with all this creepy, I like what he does with the paint. He’s in it, and I don’t think he’s pepping up any time soon. He’s been very consistently painting deathy-death paintings for years – not decades, he’s only in his late 30’s, but still. And it’s not like there was a year or so where this guy got a little dark. His allusions to the inspiration of Old Masters reveals how Samorì shares with them an idea of creating something new out of what already exists by means of. I don’t know what it is exactly, but somehow this guy makes death just way too …deathy for me. Nicola Samorì is an artist steeped in the tradition of 17th century Italian painting and sculpture, but with a determinedly contemporary stance. I enjoy everything about these works except the death, and you know I loves me some death. I should title this post “The Least Macabre Paintings I Could Find by the Artist Nicola Samori.” I love his figurative works: the simplified compositions, the suggestions of movement and time, his paint application style, texture, articulation and decay – even his color palette, though admittedly it’s on the darker of the very dark Italian tastes. ![]() ![]() The Sound and the Fury Analysisīy the time I opened The Sound and the Fury I’d a basic understanding of what to expect but that didn’t help. It’s worth noting that this is my first time reading a William Faulkner book so I’d no real indication of what to expect from his writing. Add to this the fact that the narrators themselves are all skewed towards their own personal wellbeing, making them untrustworthy, this book quickly becomes muddled. ![]() Because the structure is so intertwined the book is difficult to review, but I’ll give it my best. When the aftermath starts to unravel, that’s when the story began to get interesting. The details of the fraud were so thorough that the reader is almost convinced that nothing could go wrong. ![]() What made Double Indemnity so enjoyable was how the main characters were so sure they’d get away with the crime they were about to commit. I do think the ending was improved in the film, though, as the story’s ending felt a little disjointed from the narrative. Because the story is so short, only lasting just over three hours of audiobook reading, I feel the movie adaptation was able to include everything that made this story so engaging. Of course, planning to commit insurance fraud makes the scenario much more interesting, even if it follows some of the basic tropes of the genre. This classic piece of noir does what some might consider impossible: making an insurance salesman interesting. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Any Potterhead reading this article might know that Stephen Fry is the voice behind the UK version of the Harry Potter audio books. If you have never seen an episode, you are missing out! If you check it out, you will recognize the second half of the duo as Hugh Laurie aka Dr. I then became aware of A bit of Fry and Laurie, a tv series of sketches that aired during the 1990s. I first discovered him through Just A Minute, my favorite radio show that I highly recommend you listen to. I have liked him for a number of years now. My excitement for this book went beyond the topic it was also related to the author Stephen Fry. Through ‘ Mythos ’, I have been able to rediscover some of the myths I adored as a child and have uncovered many new ones that I had not heard of. Thus, when I saw that Stephen Fry had written a book about Greek mythology, I was very intrigued. More recently, I appreciated the Netflix series ‘ Troy: Fall of a City’. I have always loved the Iliad and The Odyssey and thoroughly enjoyed the Percy Jackson books when I discovered them as a teenager. As a child, I was very interested in Greek mythology. ![]() ![]() After a particularly devastating battle, he writes a letter to Prudence, unaware that the spoiled beauty has decided she doesn't want to wait for him.
